SandTray Play
What is Sandtray Play in Education?
Sandtray Play in Education is an educational tool that involves students making miniature worlds with a variety of small figures in trays of sand just large enough to fill the field of vision. Upon completion of the world, the child is invited to tell a story about what they have created. Sandtray play in Education owes its beginning to what is known as Jungian Sandplay Therapy but has been adapted for creative play in the school setting. The method is used both for special education pupils and regular pupils.
The objectives of Sandtray Play in education:
- Activate the child´s creative thinking
- Help the child sort out feelings in symbolic play Initiate the child´s self-healing capacities
- Develop creative expression that strengthens the child´s self-image
- Encourage originality of perception and verbal expression
- Facilitate the right conditions for the child to have a total immersion into a subject
- Reinforce language comprehension to further develop language expression and reading skills.
