Our staff is comprised of creative, dynamic and dedicated teachers. All of our teachers have post graduate teaching qualifications and a commitment to providing the very best in education.



Laurie Berg - Head of Department


Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Laurie has lived and taught in Iceland for many years. She has a bachelor's degree in social sciences and secondary education and a master's degree in special education. Laurie also obtained certification as a qualified mental health professional (QMHP) and worked as an individual and family therapist in the state of Virginia before relocating back to Iceland in 2013.

Homeroom Teachers

Estelle Toutain - Homeroom Teacher Kindergarten-1st Grade


A native of France, Estelle has a bachelor's degree in English and a post graduate degree in teaching. She has extensive experience in teaching at all levels, from preschool-secondary education, in France, Iceland and Scotland.

Jenny McKeown - Homeroom Teacher 2nd-3rd Grade


Originally from Bath, UK, Jenny studied modern languages at Oxford University before moving to Sheffield where she trained to teach. She taught in the UK for fifteen years before moving to Iceland in 2018. Jenny has enjoyed working with students of all ages at Landakotsskoli and is looking forward to her work with the second-third grade class this year.

Carly Zieminski - Homeroom Teacher 4th-5th Grade; Social Emotional Learning Coordinator K-5th


Carly earned her B.A. in Psychology and Business Administration from the University of Southern California. In addition, she holds a master's degree in Urban Education with an emphasis in Digital Literacy from Loyola Marymount University. She started her career in education, over 10 years ago, as a Teach For America Corps member in Los Angeles.
Carly also teaches Social Emotional Learning to grades K-5, which she is extremely passionate about in our ever-changing 21st century learning environment . She believes every child is an individual who deserves a safe, caring, and inspiring environment in which each will mature and develop: emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially.
Carly moved to Iceland in July of 2018 with her Icelandic husband, and she enjoys spending time in the Icelandic nature and local pools!

Thomas Clogan - Homeroom Teacher 9th-10th Grade; Secondary Mathematics and Science 8th-10th


Tom is from Pennsylvania and holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in secondary education from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught middle and high school in the United States for eight years before moving to Iceland to teach at Landakotsskóli in 2018. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, reading, athletics, hiking, and plays on the Icelandic rugby team.

Dr. Ellen Gunnarsdóttir - Global Perspectives and IGCSE History 8th-10th Grade Teacher


Ellen received her BA from Smith College and a PhD in history from Cambridge University. She has lived in Germany, Mexico, France, the USA and the UK. She has taught at the University of Iceland, the University of Reykjavik and The Iceland Academy of the Arts. She has published scholarly work on Latin American history and is the co-author of Go Green, a children´s book on sustainability.


Guy Stewart - Drama Teacher


Guy Stewart has taught in Iceland for about fifteen years. Originally from Canada, Guy was an actor after graduating from the University of Manitoba's Theatre program in 1991 before moving to Iceland in 1994. He worked in advertising and copywriting after graduating from Myndlista- og handíðaskóli Íslands, and took a teacher's certificate in 2005. He has been an art and drama teacher since that time.


Jennifer Thompson - English and Language Arts 8th-10th Grade Teacher


Originally from California, Jennifer has resided outside the United States for 12 years. She has her bachelor’s degree in English, a MA in English, and a MA in Secondary English Education. She also completed her M.A. in Writing and Teaching Writing this Fall. Additionally, she is certified to teach English as a Second Language to secondary students and adults through Cambridge’s CELTA certification. Jennifer is passionate about teaching writing and reading to secondary students, and loves learning about other cultures; she has taught in three different countries and has lived in Iceland since 2015.

Louise Harris - Art & Design Teacher


A native of London, England, Louise has a bachelor's degree in art, design and technology, a master's degree in art education and a post graduate certificate in English teaching. Prior to joining the International Department of Landakotsskóli, Louise worked at the Art's College, Myndalistaskolinn, as an art and secondary English teacher. She also taught in the International Baccalaureate program at Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð (MH).

Dr. Milos Petrovic - Physical Education Teacher


Milos was born and raised in Serbia where he obtained B.Ed. and MSc in sports science and physical education. Before moving to Iceland, Milos worked in Belgium, Malaysia, Serbia and England where he obtained a PhD from the Manchester Metropolitan University in human movement science. Parallel with teaching and coaching career, Milos is actively engaged in scientific work and he published more than 30 articles in international journals.

Stephanie User - 6th-7th Grade Math Teacher & Technology Support


Stephanie was born and raised in Nice, France, where she studied English and French as a Second Language, before moving to England. She spent six years in England where she completed her teaching qualifications and began her teaching career. Since moving to Iceland in the summer 2014, Stephanie has been teaching a range of subjects to international students of all ages.


Sinead McCarron - S.T.E.A.M K-10th Grade Teacher


Sinéad has a master's degree in art design and education from Listahaskóli Íslands where she focused her research in creating interdisciplinary educational tools. She has mentored and taught interdisciplinary group projects with MA & BA design students at Listahaskoli Íslands and helped with creating the course structure in 2017. She also holds workshops and teaches design thinking and STEAM for the classroom.

Learning Support


Alex Illes - Learning Support


Alex is from Pennsylvania and is currently in her third year at Landakotsskoli as a teaching assistant and health teacher for multiple grades.  Alex has her masters in public health from the University of Pittsburgh.  Alex previously worked in clinical research.  In her free time she enjoys reading, playing with her cats, and travelling.


Gundega Skela - Learning Support


Gundega is from Latvia. She joined International Department of Landakotsskoli in 2017. Gundega has bachelor's degree in media and journalism and during her studies she did anthropology exchange in Iceland (Háskóli Íslands) and an internship in an art gallery in Leipzig, Germany. Gundega has been participating and organizing non-formal education projects and workshops around Europe for many years. Before moving to Iceland, Gundega worked in an art school as a project manager and teacher in Latvia. While also interested in cinema, her focus in education is critical thinking and non-formal education methods as a tool to reach it.
